Opening Reception 3-5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24 | Goppert Gallery

(Leavenworth, Kan.)—The ذكذكتسئµ will open its 2019-20 fine arts season Oct. 21 with "Million Dollar Sky," an exhibition produced by new art faculty member Kate Horvat. The exhibit explores desire and expectation in American culture and will run from Oct. 21-Nov. 15 in the Goppert Gallery in Xavier Hall on the ذكذكتسئµ Main Campus.

"Million Dollar Sky" is free and open to the public from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. The ذكذكتسئµ Department of Fine Arts will host an opening reception from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 24 in the Goppert Gallery.

"At the core, my work is about spectacle and desire," Horvat said. "In a world filled with images, what visual promises are made and what experiences are delivered? What is each image asking of the viewer?"

Pieces on display will be available for purchase, with a portion of the proceeds donated to the ذكذكتسئµ Scholarship Fund. Contact Horvat at katherine.horvat@stmary.edu for more details.

Horvat joined the Saint Mary faculty this summer as an instructor of art. Her work has been featured in national and international shows as well as in numerous special collections, including the Library of Congress.

"Saint Mary already feels like home," she said, "I have been so impressed with how thoughtful and hardworking my students are, and I look forward to contributing to the long history of quality art education at USM"

Horvat is a two-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation emerging artist award and was an artist's book resident at Women's Studio Workshop in Rosendale, N.Y. She received a BFA from Northwest Missouri State University and an MFA from Arizona State University.
